Christine Cowles

    Teacher Candidate

I have worked with children, in one way or another, since high school when I spent a week teaching kids at Outdoor Lab in Jefferson County. I spent summers teaching swimming lessons and one summer in Puerto Rico running the youth activities program at Seba Seca Navy Base. I continued working on behalf of children while running the Northglenn Recreation Center Theater and then at the Arvada Center for the Arts and Humanities as the director of marketing. In 2015, my family spent a summer in Belize volunteering at a summer literacy camp for children. From 2008 - 2018 I volunteered in the classroom twice a week at Mesa Elementary. I love working with Bear Creek 1st graders now - they rock! My husband David is an architect. We have two children - our daughter attends New Vista High School and our son is at Southern Hills.

We adopted our calico cat, Sushi, a year and a half ago. She is fearless, curious and on occasion, cuddly. My father flew helicopters for the Air Force. I was born in Tokyo, Japan and lived on bases in Iceland, Nebraska, two cities in Arizona, and Illinois. I've spent time in China, Belize, Burmuda, the Virgin Islands, throughout Europe and Mexico.  My favorite book is Crossing to Safety by Wallace Stegner.
