Emily Kallio

I began my teaching career in the late 90s, starting out as a science and wilderness educator. After earning a Master’s degree in Educational Psychology and completing my teacher licensure, I joined BVSD in 2004 and have been loving teaching in the district ever since. As a kindergarten teacher, I feel blessed to have the chance to foster kids' lifelong love of learning and early social development.

Outside of school, I delight in spending time with my two daughters, Anjali (age 10), and Savi (age 5), and my husband, Nataraja. We camp in the woods, sing together, laugh, and immerse ourselves in the outdoors as much as possible. I also enjoy cooking, reading, poetry, gardening, travel, and learning each day. I am a passionate reader so it’s hard to choose a favorite book but a couple of my favorites to read to kindergarteners include, “Be Who You Are” by Todd Parr, and “Beautiful Oops” by Barney Saltzberg.
