4th Grade

4th grade making "salt" topography maps

Fourth grade students at Bear Creek are no longer learning to read, but now, reading to learn. Fourth graders share their writing using Google Docs and by mid-year, students are composing their writing on the computer and commenting on each other's work. They use technology to research and present their ideas in a variety of formats. They apply their knowledge of math facts and algebraic expression to solve problems that include operations with fractions and decimals.  In the spring, fourth graders create an evening "Exploratorium" to share a science project of their own design.  When the weather improves in the spring, we head outside to measure and study our local ecosystem.  Throughout fourth grade, we emphasize community building, teamwork, problem solving skills and the character traits of self-control, perseverance and curiosity.  Our overarching goal is for students to develop solid academic skills and strong independent work habits so they can follow their passions and find joy in learning as they continue on their educational journey.
