Lego Robotics Club

Lego Robotics for the 2017-2018 school year is cancelled.
Lego Robotics is an after school club that meets once per week to introduce students to the world of the First Lego League (FLL) competition.  Through FLL, teams of 9-14 year olds from around the world compete in three areas: robot design, research presentation and teamwork.  Each team builds a robot to solve specific “missions” that are based around an annual theme and they create a research project that describes an innovative solution to a problem that also relates to this theme.  Past themes have included Nature's Fury (natural disasters), Food Safety, Climate Change and Transportation.  At Bear Creek, interested fourth grade students meet after spring break to learn the basics of robot building and programming using the Lego Mindstorms EV-3 system.  Beginning in August of fifth grade, these students form competitive teams of 5-10 students. The fifth grade teams work throughout the fall and compete in a qualifying event in November against other students from Northern Colorado. Typically, 24 teams complete for six invitations to the state level tournament, which occurs in December or January.  This is a demanding activity for serious students who enjoy research, teamwork and problem solving.
